Dear Players,

Sharpen your skates, tape up your sticks and clean the cobwebs out of your helmets…AIHA is pleased to announce the launch of the 2019 ice hockey season!

Yes it’s true – it’s time to put down the mince and cheese pies and begin your rigorous cardio training plans (click here for some inspiration) as the 2019 season is officially upon us and we’ve made a number of changes to make this the best season yet, make sure you read below to find out more.

Registration:

2019 Player registrations are now open – click here to register on ClubHub.

Playing Fees:

Due to ice time fee increases by Paradice, playing fees have increased by 5% for 2019. AIHA’s costs have increased each year over the last 3 years, but to date these have not been passed on.

2019 Playing fees will consist of:

  • Registration Fee – Due 1 March 2019 – $175.00
  • Ice Fee Instalment 1 – Due 1st March 2019 – $149.00
  • Ice Fee Instalment 2 – Due 1st June 2019 – $149.00
  • Ice Fee Instalment 3 – Due 1st August 2019 – $149.00

A total prompt payment discount of $65.50 will apply if all fees are paid prior to March 1st. Please ensure you support the Club by paying your fees on time, or even better, early!
Payments can be processed through ClubHub at the time of registration or after you have registered.

Re-Branding:

Based on player feedback, and to keep consistent with our other leagues, we have re-branded the Senior-Non Check league to the AHL (Adult Hockey League)

New League Director:

Bill Bartlett has taken on the role of league director for 2019, please help support Bill in his new role. You can contact Bill via email: ahl@aiha.org.nz

We would like to acknowledge and say a special thank you to Karl Peni for his many years of service to AIHA and New Zealand ice hockey.

Monday Night Games:

You asked – we listened! Feedback from players has seen us add games on a Monday night to help spread out the games and increase rink availability. Plus, it gives you an excuse to knock off work early!

Monday night games will initially take place 6:45pm – 7:45pm, 8:00pm – 9:00pm and 9:15pm – 10:15pm and once the Bantam & Junior leagues start in late April, reduce to the 9:15pm – 10:15pm slot only.

Season Information:

The 2019 AHL season will start on March 23rd.
The playoffs format worked well and feedback was great, so we will retain this for 2019. Playoffs will run as follows:
A League – Semi-final knock out game, followed by best of 3 finals series.
B & C League – Quarter final knock out game, semi-final knock out game, followed by best of 3 series.
The full schedule will be available on our scheduling website prior to the season starting – click here

Officiating:

The Adult Hockey League needs referees! Without referees we cannot run games and we have been running pretty thin on the bench over recent seasons. So, if you would like to try on the stripes and engage with the game in a different way, join the “third team!” We will train you and get you up to speed in no time! Contact referee@aiha.org.nz for more information.

U12 Super League / Bantam / Junior League /  Registrations:

Registrations for the Bantam and Junior leagues are now open. Please refer to the separate email you have been sent or view the news post here. U12 Super League registration will open shortly, we will contact you once registration opens.

Questions / More Information:

If you have any questions or require more information, please email ahl@aiha.org.nz and we’ll get back to you.

We are looking forward to a fantastic season of ice hockey – see you on ice!

Kind Regards,

Auckland Ice Hockey Association
